Former India player and ODI World Cup winner, Kris Srikkanth has recently given his opinion on youngster, Tilak Varma.

As India announced their 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, the inclusion of Varma did make heads turn and eyebrows rise.

Meanwhile, Varma has already impressed one and all in his T20I debut for India against the West Indies.

Moreover, with his inclusion in the Asia Cup squad, Srikkanth wants Varma not to be selected for the ODI World Cup.

Also, there are certain doubts as to whether Varma will feature for India in the continental tournament or not.

Additionally, Srikkanth wants Varma to play in some ODI series before the World Cup so that he gets match practice for the format.

Apparently, with the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, Varma could find it difficult to get a spot in the playing XI.

Says Srikkanth,

Do not give Tilak Varma a debut in a big tournament; play him in the ODI series before that. Tilak Varma is promising. The Asia Cup is a big opportunity for him. We saw some real promise, not only in terms of performances but also temperament, during the T20I series against the West Indies. This will give him exposure.

Srikkanth says Tilak Varma has a lot of potential within him

Additionally, Srikkanth has also given a lot of praise to Varma and stated that the youngster has a lot of potential in him.

However, the veteran cricketer wants that Varma should be properly groomed before he is ready to play in a big event like the ODI World Cup.

Tilak has fantastic potential, a brilliant player- but he has to play a couple of one-day series before putting him in the WC squad. We need to groom him properly.
