AB de Villiers feels that Kohli will be the best fit at No.4 for India

Former South Africa player, AB de Villiers has stated that Kohli is perhaps the best fit at No.4 for India.

He has also stated that while Kohli loves his No.3 position, he must think of the team first and be ready to play at any position.

We’re still talking about who will be the No.4 batter for India. I’ve heard some rumours about Virat possibly taking up that position. I would be a big supporter of that.

Adding further, he says,

I think Virat is perfect for No.4. He can put the innings together, play any kind of role in that middle order. I don’t know if he would like to do that. We know he loves his No.3 position; he’s scored all his runs there, but at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something, play a certain role, you have got to put your hand up and go for it.

While India is preparing for the all-important Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, there is one small problem.

And that problem is the position of No.4 in the batting order for which they still haven’t found the perfect fit.

As many as 11 players have played at that position since the 2019 ODI World Cup wherein India got a disappointing defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the semis.

However, there are three possibilities who can come and play in the No.4 position- Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer.

However, with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer fit and ready to play, they may take up the No.4 slot and Kohli will not have to worry about a thing.

Rohit Sharma says that the team management wants the batting order to be flexible; Kohli better than Iyer

Previously, skipper Rohit Sharma has already stated that the team management wants the batting order to be quite flexible for the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

No one should say, ‘I’m good at this position or I’m good at that position.’ You want guys to be able to bat anywhere, that’s the message conveyed to every individual. Not now, but over the last three-four years.

Meanwhile, Kohli’s record at the No.4 position is really good. He has 1767 runs with an average of 55.21 and a strike rate of 90.66.

However, Shreyas Iyer’s record in the same position is not very promising. He has amassed only 805 runs with an average of 47.35 in 20 games.

While Kohli has 7 tons to his name at No.4, Iyer has only 2 which makes Kohli the better choice for the position.
