IND vs SA Test series: Shreyas Iyer’s future when Rishabh Pant returns

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer had a good run in the recent Test series between India and South Africa. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to maintain his spot on the team.

SHREYAS IYER TEST FUTURE: IND VS SA SERIES

The recent India vs South Africa Test series ended in a draw. For the second time ever, India was able to tie a Test series in South Africa. The last Test draw between the two nations in South Africa was in 2010-11. India was spectacular as usual when they leveled the series in the second Test in Cape Town. After the first Test ended with 23 wickets lost, the second transpired to be rather remarkable. The second Test ended in Just two days.

There were several things to consider, even though India’s squad should be proud of themselves for sheer determination. India displayed their dedication in the first and second Tests, especially in certain areas. After India’s two-Test tour of South Africa, Shreyas Iyer’s Test future is in doubt.

It is still uncertain whether Shreyas Iyer will be able to maintain his spot in the team, given Rishabh Pant’s return. Since Rahul is a revelation in the middle order, India might stick with Gill and Jaiswal. Shreyas Iyer may be the only player who feels threatened by Pant’s comeback. Despite hitting 31 in the opening innings, Iyer’s overall performance in the series was decent. During a phase when all South African bowlers were failing miserably with their lines and lengths, he hit 31 runs. In that particular inning, he was dismissed by an unplayable delivery from Rabada. While he may have had much control over the second and third wicket, his performance throughout the trip might work against him, given the battle for positions.
