Stokes becomes 8th batter to score 1000 international runs in India

Ben Stokes

England allrounder, Ben Stokes has etched a new record to his name in the ongoing ODI World Cup.

He is now the 8th England batter to score 1000 international runs on Indian soil and achieved this feat against Sri Lanka in yesterday’s game at Bengaluru.

Before Stokes, the other seven batters to get to this feat were Kevin Pietersen, Joe Root, Alastair Cook, Mike Gatting, Graham Gooch, Andrew Strauss, and Ian Bell.

Meanwhile, Stokes’ first international stint in India came back in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Moreover, he did not feature for England in the first four games of the ODI World Cup because of sustaining a hip injury.

Additionally, he did not play even in the warm-up games against India and Bangladesh as well.

Stokes’ first game for England came against South Africa in Mumbai

However, Stokes finally came to the party for England against South Africa at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

But, he couldn’t do much as he made 5 from 8 balls before being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada.

He came in to bat at No.4, hit a boundary, and then awarded his wicket in a simple caught and bowled to Rabada.

After his dismissal, Stokes could be seen throwing his bat in the air and looking quite frustrated as well.

Meanwhile, England got the biggest defeat against the Proteas by 229 runs and slumped down the points table.

In early 2023, Stokes decided to come out of his retirement in ODIs and played in a series against New Zealand.

He started off the series in great fashion by scoring a fifty and then followed it up with the highest individual score in ODIs and broke Jason Roy’s record.

Furthermore, Stokes was an integral part of England’s victories in the 2019 World Cup at home and the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
