Indian batter KL Rahul hit a century in the first Test match against South Africa held in Centurion. The 31-year-old cricketer smashed 101 runs.

KL RAHUL CENTURY

KL Rahul scored a century in the first Test match against South Africa held in Centurion. He is making his mark in South Africa’s cricket history. Even more remarkable is that he’s the only visiting batter to score two centuries at Centurion’s SuperSport Park. Rahul is very comfortable playing on that ground. Moreover, he’s scored 261 runs in five innings of the three matches at the venue.

KL Rahul scoring a century (101) in the first Test match against South Africa was indeed remarkable. Several former Indian cricketers have hailed it as the greatest knock of his career. Sunil Gavaskar, for instance has rated it as one of the top 10 innings ever produced by an Indian in a Test match. While talking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that, “I have been watching cricket for over 50 years now, and I can undoubtedly say this century by Rahul has to be in the top ten of India’s Test history because it’s a different pitch here”

Furthermore, Ravi Shastri said that he has faith in KL Rahul’s long-term place in India’s middle order for Test cricket. He said,

“Just the quality of his strokeplay, the application, trying conditions… he sussed them well. And I just loved his intent. Be it in attack, or defense, he was superb. By a country mile, his best hundred. And one of the best centuries you will ever see by an Indian overseas. I think these were testing conditions, and he was brilliant. He made it look easy and he has surely cemented his place in the middle order. Whether he continues keeping or not, India should certainly look at him at No. 5 or 6 on a regular basis”
