FAF DU PLESSIS COMMENTS ON INDIAN BATTERS

The Indian cricket team is currently playing a two-match Test series against South Africa in South Africa. Amidst the series, it’s interesting to hear Faf du Plessis’s take on why Indian batters struggle in South African conditions. According to the former South African skipper, the extra bounce on South African pitches creates an additional risk for Indian batters. Moreover, Faf du Plessis also mentioned that the Indian hitters are used to playing on relatively slower and lower bouncing pitches in India. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the current Indian team led by Rohit Sharma will perform in the Test. The Indian team has a poor record in South Africa. Faf told Indian Express that,

“It’s the bounce. There is almost one full hand of extra bounce here, compared to what they usually face in India. They are used to hitting the ball on the up there, but with the bounce on offer and lateral movement, there is additional risk at play if you haven’t done it before and are not used to the lift. The key to doing well in South Africa is to leave well and be there for a long period”

Furthermore, Faf du Plessis also offered some advice to the Indian batting lineup. He suggested that the Indian hitters should capitalize on poor balls to generate runs. Faf further added,

“I remember the 2018 series, where they ran us close. They left the ball really well then and that is the key to be a successful Test side in South Africa. You have got to be patient and respect the conditions at all times. You need to have a good plan as to how you play the short balls with the extra bounce and how well you leave them”
