Former India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir has extended his support to keeper-batter Ishan Kishan.

As the BCCI announced India’s squad for the ODI World Cup, Gambhir stated that Kishan should play ahead of KL Rahul in the marquee event.

Apparently, the selection committee has decided to go in with the core squad of the Asia Cup and has removed only three players.

Also, the team management will have a lot on their shoulders while selecting the middle order and which player to select from Kishan or KL Rahul.

Commenting on the same, Gambhir says that Kishan has done everything perfectly to make him a perfect fit for the ODI World Cup.

Tell me something, what is more important to win a championship- name or form? If Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli) had scored something similar (four consecutive fifties), would you still say that KL Rahul would replace them?

Adding further, he says,

The point is, when you’re gearing up to win the World Cup, you don’t see the name, you judge by their form. You choose the player who can perform and win you the World Cup. I feel Ishan Kishan has done everything he needs to do to be a frontrunner.

Gambhir says that if Rohit and Kohli had been in place of Kishan, then KL Rahul wouldn’t have gotten a chance

Meanwhile, talking about Ishan’s last four ODIs, he has scored 82, 77, 55, and 52 runs respectively.

On the other hand, Rahul has come back to the Indian side after a long struggle with the knee injury that he sustained in May this year.

Notably, Rahul is all set to make his comeback in the playing XI against Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup.

Furthermore, Gambhir strengthened his point by saying that had Rohit and Kohli been in the place of Ishan Kishan today, then KL Rahul would not have stood a chance.

Just because he is Ishan Kishan and hasn’t played a lot of international cricket, you’re saying that KL Rahul should play before him. But if Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma were in place of Ishan Kishan, would KL Rahul be able to replace them? The answer is ‘no’.
