Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in today’s World Cup game

In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Afghanistan got the better of Sri Lanka as they beat the latter by 7 wickets at Pune.

Winning the toss and opting to field first, Hashmatullah Shahidi looked pretty confident with his team’s performances in previous matches.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka skipper, Kusal Mendis also showed good spirits for today’s game.

Meanwhile, today’s game was an opportunity for both sides to keep their semifinal hopes alive and Afghanistan has delivered.

However, Sri Lanka will have to step up in their last three games to ensure that it is them who make the cut for the top 4.

Furthermore, Rashid Khan made his 100th ODI appearance for his side and was felicitated for the same.

What the captains at the toss said today in the Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan game

After winning the toss, Afghanistan skipper, Hashmatullah Shahidi said,

The reason is it will be dew later on. We are feeling comfortable, we are playing good cricket. Right now, we are focusing on how we are going to play good cricket. According to the conditions, we gave rest to Noor today and Fazalhaq comes in his place.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka skipper, Kusal Mendis said,

I was looking to bat first, put up a good score on the board and defend. In the last three matches, we have done well in all three parts, batting, bowling and fielding and we would like to do well again. Chameera is playing and hopefully he will do well.

In the first innings, Sri Lanka could gather only 241 runs on the board and asked Afghanistan to chase down 242.

Meanwhile, it was quite an easy chase for the Afghanis as skipper Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai notched up their fifties and got their team to the finish line.

Afghanistan now sits in 5th place and will try to win their next to break into the top 4 of the World Cup.
