India tops the World Test Championship points table after Pak’s loss against Australia in their 1st Test. Pakistan faced a crushing defeat against Australia by 360 runs in the opening Test match.

WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS TABLE

India climbed to the top of the WTC points table. The shuffle was after Pakistan’s trashing against Australia by 360 runs in the opening Test match in Perth. Moreover, Pakistan’s sluggish over-rate in Perth against Australia resulted in a 10% fine of the match fee. Pakistan’s loss of the two ICC WTC points was disclosed by the ICC on Monday.

Furthermore, a team loses one point for each incomplete over by Article 16.11.2 of the ICC WTC playing regulations. Pakistan’s overall points for the World Test Championship have now dropped by two. Pakistan fell to number two in the WTC25 rankings after suffering a significant defeat in the opening Test. In addition, they dropped from 66.67 to 61.11 percentage points. The penalty imposed reflects the decline in the percentage points. An announcement from the International cricket Council (ICC) read that,

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.” The ICC statement further added that,

“In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from Pakistan’s points total” 

PAKISTAN VS AUSTRALIA

To qualify for the WTC final, Pakistan must win both of its remaining Test matches against Australia. The remaining two games are at Melbourne and Sydney. Moreover, if the Men in Green lose either of those matches, difficulties might arise in the way of qualification.
