HERSCHELLE GIBBS ON TEMBA BAVUMA

The skipper of South Africa, Temba Bavuma, had missed out on the current ODI series against India. The reason for his refraining from the series was to focus on the next World Test Championship. Bavuma played his latest game for South Africa in the 2023 World Cup. South Africa’s last appearance in the 2023 World Cup was in the semifinals against Australia. In eight tournament matches, he managed to score 145 runs. In addition, his best was 35 against Australia in their second game of the contest. Walter, a Cricket South Africa spokesperson, clarified that,

“We have a busy summer ahead starting with the India vs South Africa T20 International series 2023 followed by India vs South Africa One day International series 2023 and we have therefore taken the decision to omit several of our senior players. This decision was taken together with coach Shukri as we place emphasis on the red-ball leg of the tour, meaning they will instead be preparing for the Test series by playing domestic cricket.” Moreover, South African coach Shukri Conrad said that,

“It is the start of a new ICC World Test Championship cycle and that itself is a huge incentive for everyone. We want to try and ensure we make a strong start to this sequence here at home against one of the best teams in the world”

In the meantime, Herschelle Gibbs, a former South African opener, made a subtle jab at Temba Bavuma on his performances. The former cricketer criticized his performances in various formats. Herschelle Gibbs on X wrote “Talk to me when he reaches 35 international 100s until then take a permanent holiday on Twitter.. bye now.”
