South Africa skipper, Temba Bavuma is going to be unavailable for the ODI World Cup warm-up games.

He has gone home citing personal reasons and it is not known when will he return to the squad.

Moreover, before they start off their campaign, South Africa has to face the likes of New Zealand and Afghanistan in two warm-up games.

The first of these games is against Afghanistan today and they will be hoping to get some good match practice in subcontinental conditions.

Therefore, Bavuma’s absence could give a scare to the Proteas. However, they are coming off confident wins in their previous ODIs series and will look to win this game against the Afghans.

Meanwhile, in Bavuma’s absence, Aiden Markram is going to lead the squad in the marquee event.

On the other hand, Proteas Men took to their Twitter handle and tweeted on the status of Bavuma.

#CWC23 Team Update Proteas ODI captain Temba Bavuma will travel back home due to family reasons. Bavuma misses 2 #CWC23 warm-up matches vs Afghanistan, vs New Zealand. Markram will captain in his absence.

South Africa in the right frame of mind to win the ODI World Cup

Meanwhile, South Africa has recently garnered wins in their bilateral series against Australia and is working as a confident unit.

During the series, the hosts did fall back a bit after the Aussies won two games in a row, but after that went on to win the last three games.

Furthermore, after they finish with their warm-ups, the Proteas will take on Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on the 7th of October.

On the other hand, South Africa will be looking to get a good start in the tournament and secure some wins early on.

Now, it all depends on how the side does without the services of regular skipper Bavuma.
