Former India skipper and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly has recently shared his insights for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
He has talked extensively about India’s chances in the tournament and is even happy with the performance of the Men in Blue in recent times.
Says Ganguly on India’s form,
India is a very good side, a strong team, and most importantly, they are in very good momentum. The last one and a half month was very good for Team India. They have won the crucial Asia Cup. I am very hopeful.
Moreover, Ganguly has also talked about India not winning any ICC tournaments in recent years. He is accepting of the fact that India did come close to winning the trophies but hasn’t won any since 2013. But, still, he is quite optimistic about India winning the coveted trophy this time.
It happens in the game. India played in the finals in 2017 in England they have lost to Pakistan. 2019 World Cup, India played well but lost in the semi-finals. They are playing well. I hope in this World Cup India will win the important moments, which is very important in World Cup-like tournaments. I hope India will play the finals of the World Cup on the 19th of November in Ahmedabad.
Ganguly praises Indian players; feels Ashwin is a good addition to the squad
Meanwhile, when asked about his players to watch out for, Ganguly spoke about the likes of Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah.
He also had some words of praise for skipper Rohit Sharma and has called him an outstanding skipper.
Additionally, the inclusion of senior spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin into the squad is also welcomed by Ganguly.
He is an outstanding spinner. He is probably the best off-spinner in the world. Also, he is the best spinner in India. I always think that in this format specialist is very important. It’s a very good decision. Maybe it is a coincidence as Axar Patel was out for injury. But I think it’s a very good decision.
When asked about his top four teams for the tournament, Ganguly picked the likes of India, Australia, England, and New Zealand.
He also picked England and Australia as formidable foes for the tournament and called them better than Pakistan.
