Ruturaj Gaikwad discusses MS Dhoni’s contribution to understanding T20 format during the recent IND vs AUS T20I. India swept the five-match series by 4-1.
IND VS AUS T20I SERIES
Ruturaj Gaikwad attributed his exceptional understanding of the T20 cricket format to MS Dhoni. He discussed MS Dhoni’s contribution and IPL training under the Indian captain. The leading run scorer in the recent series between India and Australia was Ruturaj Gaikwad. Throughout the five-match T20I series, Gaikwad was in excellent form. Moreover, he smashed 223 runs in five matches at an average of 55.75 in the IND vs AUS T20I series. His highlight performance of the series was his century in the third T20I held in Guwahati. Nevertheless, he has given Dhoni credit for his attitude in the format. They were teammates at the CSK in the IPL. Ruturaj Gaikwad said,
“No, definitely. I would say I learned being in CSK because, you know, Mahi bhai is always keen on reading situations, you know, understanding the game, how the game will progress. And he is more or less sends a message where you have to look for a team score.” he further added,
“You know what the team requires at that certain stage, irrespective of where you are batting, Either you are batting on 15 or not out or you just started, what the team requires just in particular that over. So I think that has stayed with me. And I’m trying to continue that”
Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni will be back together in the 2024 IPL season. While Dhoni is on the retention list, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a crucial member of the CSK franchise. Unfortunately, Ruturaj wasn’t part of the recent ODI World Cup. However, he led India from the front in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September. India won gold at the Asian Games.
