On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared that head coach Rahul Dravid and his team had extended their contracts. As the Cricket World Cup 2023 came to an end, so did David’s and his team’s contract. Despite rumors that the BCCI was looking to hire a new coach, all sides agreed to extend Dravid’s contract; however, the terms of the agreement are still unknown. Nevertheless, the BCCI did approach Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra to assume the head coach position in the national team for the T20 format prior to Dravid signing a contract.

Why Ashish Nehra Rejected BCCI’s T20 Coach Offer

Nehra was approached for the position, according to sources who spoke with NDTV. But he turned down the offer because of his obligations to the Indian Premier League team. Nehra s refusal was explain in a report publish by the news agency PTI.

Not to be overlook is the fact that Ashish Nehra, the coach of the Gujarat Titans, has consistently stated that he “wants to honor his contract with GT till 2025” and has never had any intention of leading the national team.

Being the India coach requires Nehra to travel a lot, but he doesn’t want to live out of a suitcase right now because he has a young family. He’s only considering two and a half months of IPL coaching at this point.

But when the time is right, Nehra might think about coaching the national team in white-ball in the future. It’s intriguing to note that Dravid’s contract duration is still unknown. Nonetheless, it is acknowledged that Dravid will lead the squad through the 2024 T20 World Cup. Following the event, a decision regarding his affiliation with the national team can be made.

Nehra’s current IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans, has a contract that expires in 2025. It makes sense that the team finds it difficult to let go of their highly sought-after coach at this time, especially since they have already lost captain Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians. Nehra had no desire to compel action.
