After having a one-sided showdown in the first ODI against South Africa, India will look forward to sealing the series. In the first Ind vs SA ODI, the Men in Blue trashed the Proteas by eight wickets. Indian fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan restricted South Africa to merely 116 runs in 27.3 overs. While Arshdeep grabbed 5/37 in 10 overs, Avesh seized 4/27 in eight overs. In addition, Kuldeep Yadav held one wicket, offering two runs in 2.3 overs.
In reply to the target put by South Africa, Indian batters Sai Sudharsan and Shreyas Iyer assisted India’s chase in just 16.4 overs. While Sai Sudharsan smashed 55* off 43 deliveries, Shreyas Iyer scored 52 off 45 balls. Moreover, Sai Sudharsan obtained a half-century in his debut for India.
Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer, who also achieved a half-century in the 1st ODI, might be restricted from playing in the 2nd. As per reports, to allow himself more time to get ready for the forthcoming Test series, Iyer will be skipping the 2nd ODI. He will participate in the inter-squad with the Test team before the first game in Centurion. It is most likely that Rajat Patidar will replace Shreyas Iyer. Rajat Patidar will make his debut in the 2nd Ind vs SA ODI. In addition, Patidar has been a consistent number four hitter for Madhya Pradesh with 1963 List A runs.
