SURESH RAINA ON MUMBAI INDIANS (MI) CAPTAINCY

On December 15, Mumbai Indians (MI) announced their new captain as Hardik Pandya. For the previous ten years, since 2013, Rohit Sharma led MI. In addition, under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians (MI) won five trophies (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020). Along with MS Dhoni, he is the most successful captain of the Indian Premier League(IPL), winning five trophies each. Therefore, the news of Rohit Sharma stepping down as the MI captain broke the internet. Not only fans but also some senior players were disappointed with the decision. Amidst fan’s furious approach to the news, Suresh Raina took a jab at MI.

Suresh Raina and Parthiv Patel were talking about the IPL auction and the formation of the teams. When the presenter asked Raina whether he would like MI, Parthiv Patel cut him off and requested him to hold the MI paddle. While acknowledging that, Raina subtly replied that he would have held it if Rohit Sharma had remained the captain. Moreover, Suresh Raina eventually dropped the MI paddle after complying with Parthiv. Moreover, with the taunting comment, Raina caused the entire room to erupt in laughter. Raina’s remark demonstrated that even he is not pleased with MI’s choice to remove Rohit Sharma from Captaincy.

Previously, the global head of cricket for Mumbai Indians (MI), Mahela Jayawardene in an interview with Jio Cinema said that,

“It was a tough decision. It was emotional, to be honest. It’s fair on the fans as well (to react). I think everyone is emotional and we have to respect that as well. But at the same time, as a franchise, you have to make those decisions”
