Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal opens up on not being part of the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023. The ODI World Cup 2023 will commence on October 5. India’s first encounter will be with five-time champions Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL ON EXCLUSION FROM THE WORLD CUP SQUAD

Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s noted leg spinner non-inclusion from the World Cup squad, stunned everyone. Yuzi Chahal till now has been part of the Indian team in 72 ODIs. In addition, he has 121 wickets to his name. The management preferred Axar Patel instead of Yuzi Chahal for the World Cup 2023.

However, Axar Patel is holding an injury he sustained during the Asia Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. Therefore, the management decided to substitute Axar Patel with Ravichandran Ashwin. In the meantime, there was no room for Yuzi Chahal’s preference in the squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal was quoted by Wisden saying,

“I understand that only fifteen players can be a part, because it’s a World Cup, where you can’t take 17 or 18,” Chahal told Wisden India earlier this week. “I do feel a little bad, but my motto in life is to move on. I’m used to it now… it’s been three World Cups (laughs)”

Furthermore, Yuzvendra Chahal added

“That’s why I came here (at Kent) to play because I want to play cricket somewhere, somehow. I’m getting a chance here with a red ball, and I seriously want to play red ball for India. So it was a good experience for me. I spoke to the coaches too, and they’re happy I’m playing somewhere, because you can practice as much in the nets, but match is match. I’m getting to play at a very good level here – first division, County – learning a lot here”
