The New Zealand skipper is yet to recover from the injury he sustained during Ipl 2023. Firstly, there was news of him not marking his presence in the World Cup 2023. Williamson hasn’t participated in a match since his Ipl injury. Moreover, his participation in the upcoming World Cup was almost doubtful. However, Kane Williamson eventually made it to the New Zealand squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Kane Williamson spent a lot of time in his recovery and training sessions to make it to the contest.

However, Kane Williamson will be missing from the launching game of the World Cup between England and New Zealand. However, Kane will be playing the warm-up games against Pakistan and South Africa on September 29th and October 2nd. As per, New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, statement, there is no pressure on Kane and he will be recovering soon. Gary Stead was quoted by New Zealand Herald, saying

“Right from the start we’ve taken a long-term view on Kane’s return to play. His recovery is tracking well and it’s now a matter of making sure he can cope with the rigours and intensity of international cricket. We’ll continue to take a day-by-day approach to Kane’s rehabilitation and certainly won’t be putting any pressure on him to return before he is ready”

In the meantime, there is no update on Tim Southee’s injury. Kyle Jamieson will be his replacement if he misses out in the tournament.
