Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium is gearing up to host an all-format series between India Women and Australia Women.

The scheduled series may commence in the month of December this year, starting with a one-off Test.

Additionally, this series will be held in all the various stadiums of Mumbai and fans are sure to enjoy it.

After the Test, both women’s teams will lock horns in a 3-match ODI series that will increase the excitement.

Moreover, this one-off Test holds special significance for the India Women’s team because it marks their return to the red-ball format in India after nearly a decade.

Their last Test was in November 2014 against South Africa in Mysore.

On the other hand, Australia Women also hold a special place for the Wankhede Stadium because their last Test match on Indian soil came back in 1984 at this venue.

All-format series quite a rage in women’s cricket

Talking about the all-format series concept, it is a format where teams compete in different formats.

It also has a combined scoreline that decides the ultimate winner of the series.

Recently, this format has become quite popular in women’s cricket and gives fans major nostalgia which is the Ashes series.

With the Ashes success, fans are now expecting this format to go beyond the Ashes and between different teams.

Meanwhile, fans with a sharp memory will vividly recall the exciting showdown between India Women and Australia Women when the former toured Australia in 2021.

In the end, Australia were the winners with an 11-5 margin, however, the one-off pink ball Test ended in a draw and has fans craving more.

Currently, the Wankhede Stadium is on the list of stadiums that will host some games of the ODI World Cup.

It will host India’s clash against Sri Lanka and one of the two semi-finals and this adds to its cricketing history.
