Buttler says they have a brilliant team for the ODI World Cup

England skipper, Jos Buttler recently commented that he has brought a well-built unit for the ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, in the opening game at Ahmedabad against New Zealand, England looked quite out of color.

Apart from Joe Root and Buttler, none of the batters could make any significant contributions as a result of which they could muster only 282 runs.

New Zealand got the easy target of 283 runs to chase in 50 overs which they did quite brilliantly and won with nine wickets to spare.

Additionally, Ben Stokes did not participate in this game because he is recovering from his hip injury at the moment.

However, Buttler has stated that his team is a good mix of players who can contribute well towards the team’s winning cause.

Therefore, they are not too heavily dependent on one player to do the job for them every time and have backed their teammates to come back stronger in their next clash.

I think Ben’s a top player but we’ve got many top players. I think everyone in the team got into double figures and we didn’t have enough guys go on and make telling contributions. It’s not just Ben who is able to score runs in our team. We’ve got brilliant players right throughout the squad.

England’s bowlers also fail to make an impression in opening game of ODI World Cup

Not just the batters, but England’s bowlers also didn’t fare too well as they found out that bowling under lights in Ahmedabad is quite difficult.

In the absence of Jofra Archer, England expected Mark Wood to do a good job for them. However, he didn’t live up to the expectations as he gave away 55 runs in five overs and that is not a positive sign.

With their next game against Bangladesh, England will be making some changes to their lineup.

This may see Harry Brook and Chris Woakes being replaced by Ben Stokes and Reece Topley as the defending champions look to win their first game of the tournament.
