Viacom18 bids the highest in the media rights auction and wins it

After a long and strenuous phase of bidding, the winner has finally been announced for BCCI’s media rights.

It is Viacom18 that has bid the highest amount of money for both TV and digital rights after defeating Disney Star and Sony Sports.

Now, Viacom18 is going to sign up for a deal of five years from 2023 to 2028 with the BCCI.

Meanwhile, in this auction, it was a ‘free for all’ scheme for all the bidders and it was stated that the rights will be awarded to that bidder who remains last on the table.

Also, consortiums were also allowed to participate in the bidding process when it was announced.

Additionally, it may be mentioned that BCCI had decided to sell the media rights in two different packages which they named Package A and Package B.

The price of Package A was INR 20 crore and they were the television rights. Package B was INR 25 crore which is for digital rights and the rest of the world.

BCCI expects the number of games to increase in the upcoming cycle

Moreover, the BCCI is expecting that the number of India’s home games will go up in the upcoming cycle and it will impact the viewership and monetary returns as per a news report.

Additionally, India is going to host Australia and England in the upcoming cycle.

Out of the 88 games in this cycle, 39 games will be against these heavyweights.

There will be a total of 88 games in the upcoming cycles that India will play at home.

Apart from their channels, Viacom18 will also stream all of India’s matches on their JioCinema app and website.

The rights of India’s games were previously held by Disney Star which bought them for a huge amount.

Meanwhile, India is preparing itself for the much-anticipated clash with Pakistan which will take place on the 2nd of September.
