At the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, former England captain Michael Vaughan claimed that India pacer Mohammed Shami made England all-rounder Ben Stokes appear quite inexperienced. In the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, India defeated the reigning champions England by a margin of 100 runs thanks to a clean sheet of Stokes.

Vaughan said Shami made Stokes look very amateurish

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan claimed that in Lucknow, Shami gave Stokes a very amateurish appearance. At 33 for 3, Shami castled Stokes to send England reeling in Lucknow.

Shami s over to Stokes was as good an over as you’ll see. I remember Andrew Flintoff bowling an over to Ricky Ponting in 2005. which many talk about as a great, great over. Shami’s over to Ben Stokes, who is a great player, and he made him look very amateurish,” said Vaughan.

He continued saying that, in each game they play, India appears to be delivering a message to the opposing teams. In Lucknow, India defeated England by 100 runs after batting them for 129 runs in 34.5 overs.

India seem to be sending a message in every game. To defend 230 so easily, I know England arent playing well and are low on confidence. But they’re still a good side. And to win by 100 runs, I’m sure the other sides are watching this and thinking how do you beat this side?,” Vaughan added.

In the fourth over, Mohammed Siraj felt a small ache, so Shami entered the attack. The last ball of his opening over, he produced instantly, dismissing the dangerous Stokes with a blistering full-length delivery. In his very next over, he came back with a wicket to dismiss Jonny Bairstow.

As we have come to expect from the seasoned campaigner, shami kept the pressure on with very disciplined bowling. After bowling a maiden, he took two wickets at the end of his opening over, giving just five runs in four overs.
