India head coach, Rahul Dravid has recently given a statement on Suryakumar Yadav.

He says that the team management completely backs him and hopes that he will have a good impact in the 3-match ODI series against Australia.

Meanwhile, in the first game at Mohali yesterday, SKY was at his absolute best as he scored 50 runs towards the end of the game.

He will now look to get more runs under the belt in the remaining two games.

For the first two ODIs, India has rested their senior players and allowed their bench strength to come to the fore so that they can be tested.

Although Suryakumar doesn’t have good numbers in the 50-over format, the management is still showing faith in him.

According to Dravid, Suryakumar can change things around for India in just a matter of overs.

He is in it and we have made our decision to do that and we completely back it. We back him because he has quality and ability that we have seen. Yes, we know we have at the moment seen it in T20 cricket but we know the kind of impact a player like him can make. He can change the course of a game. There is total clarity on the fact that we are completely behind him and hopefully, he will be able to turn it around.

Suryakumar Yadav picked ahead of Sanju Samson in India’s ODI squad

Talking about Suryakumar’s stats in ODIs, he has scored 537 runs in 25 games and has an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 99.81 with two fifties to his credit.

Although wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson has better numbers than SKY, the team management and selectors decided to favor the latter more.

Meanwhile, Samson has 390 runs in just 12 games and has an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.

But because of the T20I exploits of Suryakumar, the team management wants him to represent India in the ODI World Cup as well.

Therefore, SKY has to gain the faith of the selectors and the management by performing well against Australia.
