India-Australia lock horns for the first ODI on 22nd September, in Mohali. Indian captain KL Rahul won the toss and invited Australia to bat first on a good batting track. The Pat Cummins-led side didn’t get off to a good start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Mitchell Marsh in the first over itself.

However, after the early blow, David Warner (52 off 53) and Steve Smith (41 off 60) stitched a 94-run stand for the second wicket. Although, the partnership finally was broken by Jadeja by getting Warner catch-out.

Then, Shami came back to the attack and helped India get crucial wickets in the middle-over. The 33-year-old finished his spell with his best ever figures of 5/51 in ten overs to bundle out Australia for 276.

India chased down the target comfortably

Coming in for the chase, India got ballistic start by Shubham Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The duo put together an 112 runs opening stand. Shubham Gill scored 74(63) and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 71(77).

Although, Australia did make a little comeback by picking couple of wickets in the middle-order. But, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav sealed the deal for India in the end. It was rather important for Surya to make some runs before the ODI World Cup 2023.

Md. Shami was judged as the Player of the match for his five-wicket haul. Also, he registered his best ODI figures of his career. This gives team management a good headache for selection in the World Cup. The other day Siraj picked 6 wickets, today Shami picked 5 wickets.

Although, India looks set for the World Cup. Fielding is something team India will look at closely. In this match also India dropped few catches and missed run-out chances. However, fans will be hoping they rectify these mistakes quickly before the World Cup.
