Williamson discusses recovery from injuries and remaining in the moment.

Kane Williamson

Williamson, the captain of New Zealand’s destruction, is due to play in his first game of international cricket. On Friday, October 13, against Bangladesh at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Notably, stand-in captain Tom Latham will once more take on his duties as wicketkeeper and vice-captain as Williamson also returns to lead the Black Caps.

Williamson is all set to make his return to international cricket

After suffering an ACL tear during the opening game of the Indian Premier League 2023 against Chennai Super Kings, the Tauranga native made a stunning return just in time. The Kiwis captain revealed that he wasn’t really sure if he would be able to play in the ODI World Cup 2023 while discussing his comeback.

Yeah, definitely. Initially, it [my comeback] was not really considered. And to be honest, it was probably a good thing just to get my head stick into rehab and each day and not sort of rush it. That was really my focus, and I was fortunate as well I have a really, really good team around me back home,”. Williamson was saying as quoted by ESPNcricinfo on Thursday.

The 33-year-old also discussed how his recuperation went slowly. He also discussed his rehabilitation process. Emphasizing how crucial each week was to him getting a seat at what might be his final appearance at this event.

There were lots of quite clear steps along the way that you were trying to tick off. Different milestones in terms of returning to the next phases and those sorts of things. So quite different, a lot of data around it, mainly from other sports that was relied on,” williamson said further.

Against Bangladesh, New Zealand aims to continue its winning streak.

Regarding New Zealand’s World Cup campaign, they easily trounced England in the opening match in Ahmedabad. Thanks to centuries from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Then, in Hyderabad, the Kiwis defeated the Netherlands despite failing to reach the target by 99 runs. They presently sit atop the standings as a result of these victories. And when they play Bangladesh in Chepauk, they will be aiming to win their third straight match.
