Look at records been shattered in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

At every edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, we see plenty of records getting created and re-written. The ongoing tournament in India is no exception. Beginning in 1975, the ODI Cricket World Cup has reached its 13th edition, producing plenty of runs and a lot of surprising results. 

At the half-way of the ODI World Cup we have seen multiple records been shattered. And we have seen some major upsets also. With Afghanistan defeating defending champions England and then Pakistan. And Netherlands upsetting the Proteas. Till now, the World Cup have given some memorable moments.

However, the tournament has been lit up with plenty of spectacular individual performances. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been at the forefront of this record-breaking spree. Also, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell broke the record for the fastest ton at in Cricket World Cup history.

List of Records achieved till now in the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023

  1. Most Centuries: Rohit Sharma’s blazing century against Afghanistan was his seventh in Cricket World Cup cricket, the most for any cricketer. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s 12-year-old record of six centuries in the world’s biggest cricket tournament. 
  2. Highest Total: South Africa smashed the record for the highest team total in their opening match against Sri Lanka in Delhi. Courtesy of centuries from Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram. Proteas’ batting line-up minted 428 runs batting first. The previous record belonged to Australia, who had scored 417/6 against Afghanistan at Perth in 2015.
  3. Fastest Century: Not once but twice the fastest century record was broken. Aiden Markram smashed a 49-ball century against Sri Lanka, making it the fastest ton in World Cup history. Markram came in to bat at No. 4 in the 31st over and finished with 106 off 54 balls, which included 14 fours and three sixes. Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien held the record previously, who scored a 50-ball century against England in the 2011 edition. Then in a match against Netherlands, Glenn Maxwell scored a ton just 40 balls.
  4. Highest Run-chase: Pakistan chased down a 345-run target against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, making it the most successful run chase in ODI Cricket World Cup history. Sri Lanka had scored 344/9 batting first, courtesy of centuries from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. In the run chase, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan starred with centuries as the 1992 champions chased the total with 10 balls and six wickets to spare.
