The World Cup 2023 opening ceremony has been canceled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per reports, the opening ceremony was to take place before the opening match between New Zealand and England.

Reportedly, the World Cup opening ceremony was to feature star-studded Bollywood celebs. Renowned Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, melody queen Shreya Ghoshal, and the evergreen Asha Bhosle were about to grace the event with their scoop of melody. Moreover, other Bollywood celebs, which include actor Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, and actress Tamana Bhatia, were about to mark their presence. In addition, the audience was also about to witness a laser show and fireworks.

However, the International Cricket Council(ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) have decided to arrange a ‘Captains’ Day’ event. The event will be at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. As the name suggests, the event will include all the captains of the 10 teams participating in the World Cup 2023. The occasion will involve a press conference. The ‘Captains’ event’ will be on October 4th, one day before the World Cup 2023 commences.

A reliable source told TOI(Times of India),

“There was never an opening ceremony planned for the World Cup. I can confirm that.” In contrast to the Indian Premier League (IPL), which had a grand opening ceremony in April, the World Cup’s match schedule, with games starting in the afternoon, doesn’t allow for such an event”

However, as per reports, there will be a ceremony before the India vs. Pakistan match. On October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, the ceremony will take place before the game at 2 PM IST. Moreover, more good news for the fans is that there might be a closing ceremony on November 19.
