Virat Kohli missed his 49th century by 12 runs in IND vs SL at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs.


Virat Kohli came close to matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in ODI history. In the recent IND vs SL, Virat scored 88 runs off 94 deliveries. The match was played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which is Sachin Tendulkar’s home ground. Equalling Sachin’s record at his home ground would have been a special feat for Virat, who has idolized Sachin since his childhood. The two cricketing legends even shared a hug before the start of the match. India won the match against Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 302 runs.

Kohli was getting closer to matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in ODI history. Previously, he missed the opportunity to achieve the untouchable accomplishment in Dharamshala, getting out for 95. In the last outing against England, he got dismissed for a duck. However, in the recent IND vs SL, Kohli seemed all set to achieve the milestone. He had already hit eleven boundaries in his innings. His partnership with Shubman Gill accounted for 189 runs. However, he got dismissed for 88 runs off 94 deliveries by a slower ball. Dilshan Madushanka, in the 32nd over, dismissed Kohli. Playing a slower ball from Dilshan Madushanka straight into the hands of a short cover fielder, Virat got out.

The dismissal of Virat Kohli for 88 runs in the recent IND vs SL match broke the hearts of millions of cricket fans. Especially those present at the Wankhede Stadium. Kohli’s dismissal came as a shock to everyone and dashed the hopes of many who were eagerly waiting for it. However, Kohli did manage to equal Kumar Sangakkara’s record of second-most-fifty-plus scores(118) in ODIs.
