TOM LATHAM ON NEW ZEALAND’S DRILL FOR THE WORLD CUP 2023

The World Cup 2023 commences on October 5, with the 2019 ODI World Cup finalists England and New Zealand clashing in the first match of the campaign. The ten teams contesting for the title will look forward to putting up a good skit. While India is the most favorite of this season, New Zealand is not lagging.

New Zealand is also among one of the favorite nations to lift the World Cup trophy. However, as per reports, Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson and experienced pacer Tim Southee will have to miss the opening match due to injuries. New Zealand’s stand-in captain, Tom Latham, conveyed his views on the team’s preparations. The cricketer elaborated that the team can adapt to any circumstances.

Tom Latham was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo saying,

“Obviously, the end goal is to be there at the end [of the tournament], which I’m sure every team has, but I think something we pride ourselves on as a group is being able to adapt as best we can. We are lucky that we have guys who have played plenty of cricket in these parts of the world, whether it be against India or in the IPL”

Tom Latham further added

“We have got that mix of experience where we are able to lean on guys around. [Some] guys have played at this ground, some guys haven’t. So adapting is a really important part of playing over in these conditions that can change throughout the game. It is being able to think on our feet a little bit and make sure we stay ahead of the game”
