Star Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill is unwell and likely to miss the India vs. Australia clash. According to a BCCI source, Shubman Gill had a high fever ever since he landed in Chennai.


This a setback for the Indian team as Shubman Gill is unwell. He is suffering from a high fever and will probably miss the opening match against Australia. Shubman is reportedly down with dengue. Ishan Kishan might open with Rohit Sharma in the absence of Shubman Gill. A BCCI source said that

“Shubman has had a high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday, and a call will be taken on his participation in the opening game. Let’s not jump the gun. If it’s a normal viral fever, he could play on antibiotics, but it’s completely the medical team’s call”

If Shubman tests positive for dengue, then he will have to miss a couple of matches in the World Cup 2023. It will be obvious that he will miss the match against Australia in A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. In addition, Gill will also have to miss out on the game against Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The recovery process from dengue usually takes 7-10 days span. Therefore, Shubman will have to skip a few games.

Shubman Gill is currently at the No. 2 spot of the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings with 839 rating points. Gill has scored a total of 1230 runs so far in 20 ODI in 2023. In addition, Gill recently broke Hasim Amla’s record for most runs after 35 innings. Moreover, Gill registered his sixth century in the ODI series against Australia. Unfortunately, due to being unwell, Shubman may not be able to participate in some matches.
