Shubman Gill health update: To miss the match against Afghanistan WC23

Shubhman Gill

BCCI official press conference reveals health update of Shubman Gill. The cricketer will miss India’s second match of the World Cup campaign against Afghanistan.

Shubman Gill, being second on the ICC ODI men’s batting rankings, was one of the finest batsmen that India would vouch for. However, the young opening batsman couldn’t mark his presence at the beginning of the World Cup. Shubman Gill had tested positive for dengue, a disease that leads to lethargy.

As per reports, Gill is recovering from the illness in Chennai under medical supervision. Shubman is yet to recover from the sickness and will not play the match against Afghanistan. India’s second match of the World Cup 2023 campaign is against Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The BCCI said in it’s official press release that,

“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team”

India began their World Cup campaign on October 8, Sunday against Australia. Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. Indian bowlers executed the best bowling figures and restricted Australia to 199 in 49.3 overs. Chasing the target, India lost three early wickets of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer. Despite that, Virat Kohli was still in the crease and built a partnership with KL Rahul. While Virat Kohli scored 85 runs off 116 balls, Kl Rahul scored 97 off 115 deliveries. Eventually, India won the match by six wickets.
