Shami and Rohit hug after defeating New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 goes viral. India entered the finals of the Cricket World Cup 2023.


The Indian cricket team made it to the finals of World Cup 2023 after defeating New Zealand on November 15. Rohit Sharma and company trashed the Kiwis by 70 runs. The semifinal between India and New Zealand on November 15 was at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The toss was in favor of Rohit Sharma, who decided to bat first. Batting first, the Indian team started with a bang. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill accelerated the scoreboard with a higher run rate. While Rohit Sharma scored 47 off 29 balls, Shubman Gill smashed 80 off 60 balls. Keeping the momentum, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer sliced runs from bat. Virat Kohli slashed his 50th century, and Shreyas Iyer scored his second century off the World Cup 2023. With the finishing touch of KL Rahul, India’s score was 397/4 in 50 overs.

In reply, New Zealand lost early wickets in the name of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. However, after the dismissal of the openers, skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell regulated the innings. While Kane Williamson scored 69 off 73 balls, Daryl Mitchell smashed 123 off 134 off 119 runs. Apart from them, Glenn Phillips scored 41 off 33. However, the efforts from the Kiwi’s skipper and the batsman didn’t add up to their good. Indian seamer Mohammad Shami delivered another spectacular bowling figure(7/57) of the season.

India made their way to the final in 48.5 overs, beating New Zealand by 70 runs. Rohit Sharma rushed over to give Shami a firm hug after the fall of the last wicket. This moment from the game went viral on the internet. The two legendary cricketers share a strong bond which reflected in the unplanned hug.
