In an exciting final held on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia defeated India by six wickets to win their sixth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. In relation to the match, Pat Cummins invited India to bat first after winning the toss.
With three wickets in three overs, Mitchell Starc was instrumental in limiting India to a below-average 240 runs. With 54 and 66 runs scored, respectively, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul emerged as India’s top scorers. Maxwell grabbed one wicket, while Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Starc each took two.
With Mohammed Shami’s early wicket of David Warner for just seven runs in the second over, India began their defence early in the second innings. Later, in the fifth and seventh overs, respectively, Jasprit Bumrah struck, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith.
Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put together an incredible 192-run partnership for the fourth wicket in spite of early breakthroughs. With 42 balls remaining, they managed to successfully chase down the target, ending India’s hopes of winning their third World Cup. With 137 runs in 120 deliveries, Head had an incredible innings, and Labuschagne, with 58 runs, was unbeaten.
