Pakistan’s star opening batsman weird response to the team not hitting enough sixes

Iman-ul-Haq odd response to a journalist at the press conference creates awkwardness. The cricketer was asked about Pakistan lacking sixes.

Pakistan, the second-ranked men’s ODI team, is staggering to mark their position in the semi-finals. After getting beaten by ranked India and five-time champions Australia, Pakistan was heading to face Afghanistan. Playing against Afghanistan, Pakistan was able to break its 1,169 ball record without a sixer during the opening powerplay in an ODI this year. Abdullah Shafique hit a six off the third ball of the fifth over against Naveen-ul-Haq. Later, he smacked another six off the third ball of the 8th over to Mujeeb. There was a total of two sixes from his bat in the first ten overs.

Pakistan scored 945 runs over 20 innings this year while facing 1,202 balls in the first powerplay. Out of there, 789 deliveries faced by Pakistan were dot balls. This indicates that they did not score on more than 65% of the balls. Moreover, in this year’s first Powerplay, Pakistani batters hit 131 fours and two maximums. Before the match against Afghanistan, the standout batsman of Pakistan, Iman-ul-Haq, was questioned about the Pakistan lacking sixes.

“Lot of talk about the top-order not hitting sixes. What is the secret behind not hitting sixes at this level and what’s the mindset? Is there a process? Is there a mindset that you have to unlock? What is it?” asked a reporter. To this Iman-ul-Haq’s response was,

“Maybe we want to eat more proteins and not that much carbs. It’s just that there is nothing, we want to talk about it. It’s just that we don’t really feel it if we are not hitting sixers or fours, It’s just that what are we doing for the team…if we are winning matches. Unfortunately, last two matches we did not play well. We have to accept it”
