NED vs SA was another major World Cup 2023 upset. The Netherlands breaks South Africa’s winning streak, defeating by 38 runs.

Marking their first win in the ODI World Cup 2023, Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards attributes it to playing ‘total cricket‘. Although the Netherlands didn’t have an ideal start, they managed to set a target of 246 runs. The lead run scorer for the Netherlands was Scott Edwards. Scott Edwards was not out in the first innings, smashing 78 off 69 balls. Apart from him, Roelof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt also added crucial runs to accelerate the scoreboard. While Roelof van der Merwe scored 29 runs off 19 balls, Aryan Dutt slashed 23 runs off 9 deliveries. Talking about the runs scored in last overs of NED vs SA, Scott Edwards told reporters that,

“As a group, we pride ourselves on playing total cricket: guys that are coming in at number 9 or 10 but have just as much ability to put on partnerships. Out there batting with them was just about giving us a chance to go harder later in the innings. Luckily, Roelof (van der Merwe) and Aryan (Dutt) played some unbelievable cameos to get us what we thought was round about the par score”

The South African skipper Temba Bavuma statement on NED vs SA match

“You got to let the emotion kind of seep in, Don’t think there is any point in trying to forget what’s happened. It is going to hurt, it should hurt. But then you come back tomorrow, you wake up and we get back onto the journey. Our campaign is not over by any stretch of the imagination, but you got to feel the emotion of today and come back tomorrow with the head held up”
