Australia speedster, Mitchell Starc has decided to make a comeback to the IPL next year.

Apparently, Starc wants to hone and fine-tune his skills for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA next year.

Moreover, Starc participated fully in the 2015 season of the IPL but since then, hasn’t considered playing in the cash-rich league.

That’s why after a gap of eight years, he has finally decided to register himself in the mini-auction of the IPL.

Look it’s been eight years. I’m definitely going back in [next] year.

Previously, Starc played for two seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and played 27 games for the franchise.

After that, he was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 but he left the season due to an injury.

Additionally, this decision to play in the IPL aligns perfectly with the light winter schedule of international cricket for Australia.

Australia will only focus on the T20 World Cup and they have bilateral series against New Zealand, Afghanistan, Ireland, and England.

That’s why Starc says the IPL is a good opportunity to brush up and become prepared for the T20 World Cup.

So a good opportunity to see if anyone’s interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it’s somewhat of a quiet winter next year…in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in.

Starc not worried about Test milestone; is open to face new challenges

Meanwhile, Starc’s previous reluctance to play the IPL was because of his deep-rooted commitments to Test cricket.

But, now he is on the verge of playing 100 Tests for Australia and is also open to facing new challenges in his career.

I try not to look too far ahead with anything, not just get to 100 [Tests], I’d like to be good enough to be picked for 100 Tests, and then you look at the one-day format, it’s sort of four years in between World Cups, so where do I see myself in that mix? But I’ve got to get to the end of this World Cup first.
