Virat Kohli’s 95 assists India to break the curse of 20 years against New Zealand in an ICC event. The India vs New Zealand match on October 22 was a payback event for Indian fans.


Virat Kohli’s smashing 95 runs off his bat in the India vs New Zealand match aided India in gaining victory over New Zealand. In addition, India marked their fifth consecutive game in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The match was at HPCA Dharamshala. The toss was in favor of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who invited New Zealand to bat first. Batting first, New Zealand’s opener Devon Conway got out at duck. Moreover, his opening partner, Will Young, could add just 17 runs to the board. However, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell contributed 159 runs for the third wicket against India. While Daryl smashed 130 off 127 balls, Rachin scored 75 off 87 balls. With the help of both, New Zealand could achieve a total of 273.

In reply to this, the Indian innings started as required by captain Rohit Sharma and youngster Shubman Gill. However, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket to Lockie Ferguson at 46. Later, Shubman had to return to the pavilion, scoring merely 26 runs. However, Virat Kohli was still on the crease, looking forward to chasing another total with his bat. Virat Kohli was unstoppable, while other cricketers lost their wickets in between. He scored 95 runs, which enabled India to reach the surety to conquer New Zealand. Moreover, the jinx of getting defeated by New Zealand in an ICC event came to an end.

After the India vs New Zealand match, Rohit Sharma at post-match presentation said that,

“Nothing much to say about Virat. We’ve seen him do this for so many years. He backs himself to do the job”
