Major Setback for India as Shami might not be available for the Test against South Africa

India suffers a major setback as Mohammed Shami might not be available for the IND vs SA Test. He is still recovering from an ankle injury.

With the IND vs SA Test series beginning soon, senior pacer Shami is in a race against time to be ready. The Test series starts on December 26. However, Mohammed Shami is still recovering from an ankle injury. While Shami was included in the Test team declared on November 30, his eligibility is uncertain. His inclusion in the Test squad was dependent on how well he recovered from the treatment. PTI is aware that Shami may not go to South Africa with the rest of the team. The Test Squad includes skipper Rohit Sharma, veteran batsman Virat Kohli, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and others. On Friday, they are supposed to take off for Johannesburg.

Shami is probably going to keep healing at home. Moreover, the pacer may return for the home Test series against England. The IND vs ENG Test series will begin on January 25 in Hyderabad. However, if replacement is a requirement, the selectors might include one of the players from the India A team. India A team is currently contesting in South Africa for the Test series. The second IND vs SA Test will begin on January 3, 2024, in Cape Town. However, Mohammed Shami has a cause of celebration amidst his absence for the Test series against South Africa. On Wednesday, he was announced as a nominee for the reputable Arjuna Award.

INDIAN SQUAD: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), and Prasidh Krishna.
