Today was a proper nail-biting contest between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, India were off to a flier once again as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit the Lankan Lions to all parts.

Things were going pretty smoothly for India as they were 80/0 when suddenly Sri Lanka decided to use spin.

While Rohit looked in fine touch, Gill was struggling to get runs against the Lankan bowlers. Rohit reached his 50 and also the 10,000-run mark in ODIs.

However, during the 12th over, young spinner, Dunith Wellalage got the better of Gill as he bowled him out.

This was also one of Wellalage’s dream deliveries as Gill was left dumb-struck after being dismissed.

Wellalage continued to pile on misery for India

After getting the better of Gill, Wellalage continued with his good show in bowling as he kept Virat Kohli under his snare.

Under pressure, on the fifth ball, Kohli tried to go a bit aerial but was caught at mid-wicket by skipper, Dasun Shanaka.

This was a rather poor outing for Kohli who managed only three runs during his short stay.

Afterward, Wellalage got the better of Rohit Sharma as he bowled the Indian skipper who had to make his way to the pavilion after scoring 53 from 58 balls.

India thus finished their innings on 213 and asked the hosts to chase down 214.

Things were going Sri Lanka’s way with Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage well set at the crease.

With the fall of de Silva, the floodgates opened for India as thereafter it was a flurry of wickets.

Kuldeep once again was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 4/43 while Bumrah and Jadeja got 2 wickets.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya got 1 wicket apiece.

India has won the game by 41 runs and has advanced to the final of the Asia Cup where they await the winner of Thursday’s game.

It will be an interesting face-off between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the winner will meet India on Sunday.
