ODI WORLD CUP

Gill Will Probably miss multiple World Cup games because of dengue.

Shubhman Gill

Star opener Shubman Gill is in a battle against time to get back in shape on the day of India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 opener against Australia, which is a worrying development.

Gill down with fevere

The 24-year-old has been battling a condition that is thought to be dengue, casting doubt on his ability to play in the pivotal match on October 8.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, offered a ray of optimism to Indian fans. He said that Gill has shown signs of development despite the rumors surrounding his participation.

According to the OneCricket sources, Gill is probably going to miss more than one World Cup game. Because to this tragic development, he will miss India’s opening encounter against Australia. Also its subsequent games against Afghanistan on October 11 and the eagerly anticipated meeting against archrivals on October 14.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, said in the press conference,

I want Shubman Gill to get well soon. We will give every chance to him to recover. He’s still not ruled out. He is a young guy, he is fit body and he will recover soon.”

Dengue is infamous for its erratic course of recovery. While athletes normally need 7–10 days to get back to match fitness, a reduction in platelet count can considerably lengthen the recovery time.

The Indian team has relied heavily on Gill for his productive top-order partnership with captain Rohit Sharma.
The Indian team’s efforts to create an impact at the World Cup may suffer significantly if Gill is truly out for an extended period of time.
